Pesticide Action Kit
new toolkit for local communities One of the key elements of the Clean Water for Salmon campaign is to pass policies at the local level that phase out use of pesticides that can harm salmon. We have already had one success with the adoption of a city policy in Lynnwood, Washington. Use of pesticides that pose a significant health risk to salmon or people is being eliminated on city property. We continue to work with local groups in Spokane and Bainbridge Island in Washington, and in Salem, Portland, and Eugene in Oregon as well as other cities around the region. These groups want to have similar policies that emphasize pest prevention and restrict the use of hazardous pesticides in parks, roadsides, and municipal properties. We have been busy at work this summer and fall creating an action kit for community members to assist them getting their city or county to adopt a policy that is protective of salmon, water quality, and human health. This action kit, including fact sheets, information resources, and organizing tips, will give local folks a strong base for initiating a pesticide reform campaign in their community.
