FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 5, 2002
Guide will be a resource for consumers seeking locally produced agricultural products Southern Idaho farmers and ranchers are being asked to supply information for a consumer's local foods directory to be published January 2003. The Local Foods Guide for Southern Idaho is a listing of farms, ranches, farmers' markets and other businesses that produce and sell food in southern Idaho. The guide will be a resource for consumers in southern Idaho who would like to buy locally produced agricultural products, but don't know how to reach the farmers and ranchers. The guide will be distributed at farmers' markets, restaurants, grocery stores, retail outlets and other organizations. Interested farmers and ranchers are being asked to provide a statement of the sustainable methods they employ. These statements will be included in the guide and will ensure consumers that the foods are produced using sustainable farm and ranch practices. Producers of other local, sustainably produced goods, such as herbal teas, canned preserves and potted plants, are also invited to be listed in the directory. The directory is a project of the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides and the Idaho Organic Alliance. To receive an application to be included in the guide, contact Jennifer Miller at (208) 850-6504 or millerjen12@aol.com.
