Officers

Betty McArdle, Oregon (President)
Betty is a contract events coordinator in the greater Portland area teaching Naturescaping, or chemical-free landscaping using native plants and environmentally friendly gardening practices. Betty has a rich background in non-profit environmental organizations as both a staff and board member.

Gail Gutsche, Montana (Vice-President)
Gail served four terms in the Montana State House of Representatives. Curtailed by term limits, Gail currently is a political consultant. She formerly coordinated the pesticide program for Women's Voices for the Earth in Missoula. Gail is active in women's health issues and serves on state and national boards and advisory committees.

Woody Deryckx, Washington (Treasurer)
Woody is a specialist in organic agriculture. Formerly, Woody was the field representative for Grandview Frozen Foods and the agronomist for Cascadian Farm, both processors of organic frozen fruits and vegetables. He co-founded Tilth and has served on the Boards of Washington Tilth and the Organic Farming Research Foundation. He currently serves on the board of directors of Organic Seed Alliance.

Helen Haberman, Oregon (Secretary)
Helen is an environmental science teacher in the Rachel Carson Program, a small learning community where students gain an in-depth understanding of the natural environment at Eugene's Churchill High School. Students in the program monitor watershed health and provide valuable restoration work in partnership with government and non-profit groups. Helen previously managed a small business in Eugene. She has a master's degree in education.

Cliff Bradley, Montana
Cliff is a founder of Montana Microbial Products, a Missoula-based firm that works in applied microbiology for agricultural pest management and value-added processing of agricultural products. His business has excellent links with researchers at Montana State University and is highly regarded as an innovative small business. Cliff is also an activist, volunteering on issues ranging from globalization to food security and local sustainability.

Catriona McCracken, Oregon
Catriona is an attorney who worked most recently for the Oregon Department of Justice, General Counsel Division, providing legal services to state agencies, boards and commisssions. Prior to that, Catriona worked for a private firm that represented cities and counties throughout Oregon. Catriona is involved with many community-based efforts and is currently enjoying time at home with her two young sons.

Susan Medlin, Idaho
Susan's diverse background includes teaching in primary schools and in universities, as well as founding an independent non-profit school focused on arts and sciences in Boise. Susan is passionate about advocating for local foods and strengthening the environmental movement. She has a Ph.D. in Business, Government and Society from the University of Washington.

Soozie Nichol, Washington
Soozie and her family own and operate Rosie Hippo, a home-based catalog business specializing in wooden toys and games for children. She has a degree in botany and previously operated a certified organic farm. She brings to the board her business and web-marketing savvy and a strong interest in protecting children from pesticide hazards.

John O'Connor, Idaho
John is president of Farm Management Inc., an agricultural consulting and farm management business in the heart of potato country. He also owns 740 acres of farm and ranch land in three Idaho locations, 20 of which are certified organic. John has many contacts throughout the conventional and organic agriculture communities in Idaho. He has a B.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Idaho.

Deanna Simon, California
Deanna works with San Francisco's integrated pest management program, implementing an IPM policy that has a strong commitment to reducing reliance on pesticides for addressing the City's needs. She also implements San Francisco's green purchasing program. Deanna has a master's degree from UC Berkeley in biological control.
