Tell EPA to Ban the Toxic Insecticide Carbaryl!!!

In January, farmworker, environmental, public health, and other groups petitioned EPA to ban the toxic pesticide carbaryl. Now, EPA is seeking public comment until May 31 on whether carbaryl should be banned.

EPA needs to hear from you that carbaryl should be off the shelves!

Carbaryl has too many strikes against it to still be used today:

  • EPA considers carbaryl a likely carcinogen
  • Carbaryl is known to be toxic to the nervous system
  • Carbaryl is dangerous to fish and birdsxxs
  • Honey bee populations can be devastated by carbaryl

You can send your comments to EPA until May 31, 2005.

SAMPLE LETER:

I was shocked to hear that EPA is planning to continue to allow the use of carbaryl, a chemical you consider likely to cause cancer and that is known to harm the nervous system. Carbaryl also has devastating effects on honeybees as well as fish and wildlife, and has been at the root of serious poisonings of farmworkers.

The minor changes that EPA has proposed to reduce carbaryl use are a far cry from what is needed to protect people, fish and wildlife, and bees. Please, ban carbaryl now so we can have safer food, workers, and communities.

Sincerely,
