The Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP) will celebrate heroes who are working to reduce pesticide use in their communities during a fundraiser at Holy Cow Café (2621Willamette St. in Eugene) on April 16 at 6 p.m.
Holy Cow is donating 25 percent of its daily profits to NCAP, but customers must mention NCAP when purchasing food. The event will feature speaker Colehour Bondera, member of the National Organics Standards Board, organic farmer and activist from Hawaii. There will also be a presentation that unveils the first-ever
winner of NCAP’s Community Hero Award.
Admission is free, and NCAP encourages anyone interested in organic, sustainable farming as well as pesticide activism on a local scale to attend. NCAP is a non-profit organization that works to protect community health and the environment through research, organizing and advocacy to promote alternatives to pesticides. They are based in the Northwest and have been active in pesticide reform efforts for over 30 years. The Community Hero Award aims to honor individuals who promote these values in thought-provoking, effective ways within their regions. Visit pesticide.org to learn more.
