Pesticide-Free Pledge

Pesticides are agents (including insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides) that are designed to kill living organisms. But they don't just kill the "pest," they can harm other creatures, too. Many common chemical pesticides are dangerous and can cause ill health effects in people, pets and wildlife when exposure occurs. Over time, repeated or severe exposures can lead to serious illnesses, cancer and birth defects.

Take the Pesticide-Free Pledge to keep your home, yard and garden free from toxic pesticides!

Most issues that you encounter in your home, yard or garden can be avoided or solved using ecological alternatives. That means being pesticide-free isn't just better for the environment, it's also easy!

Let the community know you took the pesticide-free pledge! Showcase your healthy home or yard by posting a photo of your yard on social media with the hashtag #pesticidefreepledge

"To help protect the environment, my health, and the health of others, I pledge to avoid using synthetic pesticides in my home, yard and garden."

As members of local Safe Ag Safe Schools/Watsonville, we work with city, county, & state officials to reduce pesticides near local communities, particularly where schools & senior enclaves are located, because these are our most vulnerable citizens. We worked on the successful CHLORPYRIFOS ban in CA and are currently working to reduce & eliminate 1,3-dichloropropene, marketed by Corteva as Telone. This carcinogenic gas is the 3rd most widely used pesticide in CA and is heavily used to fumigate strawberry fields before transplanting. It not only kills all soil microorganisms, but the gas can travel long distances.

would like to see neotonics banned. It is really hard to determine which plants I buy are really safe as retailers are less-than honest. All plants for sale should have tags that clearly delineate growing practices in regards to pesticide use. Lack of labeling or even info on nursery and garden center websites creates a barrier to knowing which plants are safe.
