Take Action: Revise the EPA's Label Review Manual

The US EPA has created an online discussion forum to solicit input for their Label Review Manual, a tool they publish to help people understand the pesticide labeling process.

In the past, the EPA pesticide labeling process has been criticized for not mandating full disclosure of the potential health and environmental impacts of chemical pesticides and their breakdown products. EPA hopes that the “Enable the Label” forum will provide informal comment opportunities to everyone interested in improving the Label Review Manual (LRM).

The LRM discusses label claims, ingredient statements, labeling requirements, direction for use, etc. EPA is currently seeking comments or suggestions in the following areas:

• Text that can be improved;
• Examples that could be improved or replaced with better ones; and,
• New scientific or policy developments that have occurred since the chapter was last updated.

Throughout September, comments will be accepted on chapters 1 and 2 of the LRM. Comments may be submitted on chapter 3 beginning in October.
