Help Us Ensure Chlorpyrifos is Banned!

Chlorpyrifos is a dangerous insecticide, widely used on a variety of crops, including strawberries, apples, wheat, and Christmas trees. Chlorpyrifos is a neurotoxin – damaging the brains and nervous systems of those who are exposed. Farm workers, rural communities, children, pregnant mothers and endangered wildlife are especially at risk when coming in contact with this chemical.

NCAP has been working to end chlorpyrifos use for almost 15 years! We sued the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to implement restrictions to protect endangered salmon species and helped allies ban chlorpyrifos in Oregon. Now, a federal court has ordered EPA to stop ignoring the hazards and ban all food uses or provide evidence that it’s safe. The science clearly shows that there is no safe level for chlorpyrifos, with even small residues on foods harming children.

At the advice of their own scientists, EPA almost banned chlorpyrifos several years ago. But the Trump administration put industry profit before community and environmental health and refused to take action. We have an opportunity today to protect children, farm workers, and endangered salmon and ban all food uses of chlorpyrifos! NCAP will send a petition to the EPA with your comments included.

Petition Text:

I urge the Environmental Protection Agency to follow through with the 9th Circuit’s order and ban chlorpyrifos now. EPA should have taken action to ban all food uses of chlorpyrifos a long time ago and people and wildlife have been harmed by it during the last decade of inaction from the government.

While states like Oregon, California, Hawaii, and New York have stepped in to end use of chlorpyrifos, they cannot prevent residues of chlorpyrifos on the foods that cross into their states or prevent chlorpyrifos from entering their waterways. Only EPA can do that.

Exposing children, farm workers, agricultural communities and endangered salmon to this toxic chemical must end today. I urge you to follow your founding principles and ban chlorpyrifos to protect community and environmental health.

A friend’s large peach orchard was killed by roundup. Also, my personal fruit trees were killed by it before I learned to not use it.

There’s got to be a special place in hell for the greedy monsters who manufacture this toxic mess!

Californians for Pesticide Reform and over 100 local citizens groups managed to convince Gov. Newsom to ban chlorpyrifos. Now it’s time for EPA to honor it’s November, 2016 intention to ban this brain-harming organophosphate.

I’m totally organic. We don’t need dangerous chemicals in our environment.

Poisons like chlorpyrifos are not necessary to grow food crops.

There is no excuse for exposing people to these toxic substances. There are plenty of better ways to deal with gardening & agriculture than poisons that put us at risk.
