Pesticide-Free Pledge

Two young children sitting in the grass

Pesticides are agents (including insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides) that are designed to kill living organisms. But they don't just kill the "pest," they can harm other creatures, too. Many common chemical pesticides are dangerous and can cause ill health effects in people, pets and wildlife when exposure occurs. Over time, repeated or severe exposures can lead to serious illnesses, cancer and birth defects.

Take the Pesticide-Free Pledge to keep your home, yard and garden free from toxic pesticides!

Most issues that you encounter in your home, yard or garden can be avoided or solved using ecological alternatives. That means being pesticide-free isn't just better for the environment, it's also easy!

Let the community know you took the pesticide-free pledge! Showcase your healthy home or yard by posting a photo of your yard on social media with the hashtag #pesticidefreepledge

"To help protect the environment, my health, and the health of others, I pledge to avoid using synthetic pesticides in my home, yard and garden."

I’ve built my garden for 21 years now with NO pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or industrial fertilizers. Please come visit to see how amazing a garden can be without a lawn or poisons. I’ll bet the weight of all the beneficial plant and animal life above and below the soil line in my garden now is in the tons. In the spring there are baby skinks and lots of native snakes (harmless to people!), the summer blooms are literally teeming with beneficial insects, and the hummingbirds nest in the yard because they feel so comfortable, protected and loved. The birds year-round are a joy. The mason bees are full of personality and fill the garden all summer. The little brown bats spend every summer evening over the garden feeding on the insects in the air. I can’t think of very many other aspects of living in town that are so delightful and satisfying in this life, and I invite you to join me in this small-but-vital effort to build poison free communities that are healthy and beautiful for all us creatures "-)

Keep up the good work! Also, I live in COrvallis. Is there anyone from your group that lives here? I would love to have a coffee with them and work together to make Corvallis become much more toxic free.

I am driven to help educate parents and communities in my area about becoming more sustainable as homeowners by curbing the use of toxins on our lawns and in our homes. Any information is welcome. I have restarted a group called Project SafeYard™ and hope to help communicate your message!
