Help Us Ensure Chlorpyrifos is Banned!

Chlorpyrifos is a dangerous insecticide, widely used on a variety of crops, including strawberries, apples, wheat, and Christmas trees. Chlorpyrifos is a neurotoxin – damaging the brains and nervous systems of those who are exposed. Farm workers, rural communities, children, pregnant mothers and endangered wildlife are especially at risk when coming in contact with this chemical.

NCAP has been working to end chlorpyrifos use for almost 15 years! We sued the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to implement restrictions to protect endangered salmon species and helped allies ban chlorpyrifos in Oregon. Now, a federal court has ordered EPA to stop ignoring the hazards and ban all food uses or provide evidence that it’s safe. The science clearly shows that there is no safe level for chlorpyrifos, with even small residues on foods harming children.

At the advice of their own scientists, EPA almost banned chlorpyrifos several years ago. But the Trump administration put industry profit before community and environmental health and refused to take action. We have an opportunity today to protect children, farm workers, and endangered salmon and ban all food uses of chlorpyrifos! NCAP will send a petition to the EPA with your comments included.

Petition Text:

I urge the Environmental Protection Agency to follow through with the 9th Circuit’s order and ban chlorpyrifos now. EPA should have taken action to ban all food uses of chlorpyrifos a long time ago and people and wildlife have been harmed by it during the last decade of inaction from the government.

While states like Oregon, California, Hawaii, and New York have stepped in to end use of chlorpyrifos, they cannot prevent residues of chlorpyrifos on the foods that cross into their states or prevent chlorpyrifos from entering their waterways. Only EPA can do that.

Exposing children, farm workers, agricultural communities and endangered salmon to this toxic chemical must end today. I urge you to follow your founding principles and ban chlorpyrifos to protect community and environmental health.

Science shows that chlorpyrifos is toxic to humans and animals. Only you can protect us by banning it. The future of everyone’s health is in your hands.

As a nurse, I implore you to ban Chlorpyrifos as soon as possible. Every day that it remains in use it harms people, animals, and the environment.

How many times do we have to repeat the same mistake: allowing chemicals throughout our living world without regard for longer term consequences? Ban chlorpyrifos now.

We need to get neurotoxins out of the food supply, and the time to remove chlorpyrifos is long overdue. Kick this political football out of the park.

Enforcing legal bans that keep dangerous poisons out of our food supply should not be a political issue. It’s common sense.

Thank you for stopping the use of Chlorpyrifos. Protecting our environment and us from such dangerous chemicals is what the EPA is all about. Follow your own mission statement: to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment — air, water and land — upon which life depends. I am a grandmother and would hate to think that any child, grandchild, or wildlife could be detrimentally affected by such poisonous substances.
