On Tuesday April 18th, we were in Salem, at the convention center with the Oregon Food Bank, supporting the Food for All Oregonians campaign.

The OFB offered NCAP a space to present the radio show: Raices Resilientes/Voces del Campo by 96.1FM (which we host on Tuesdays from 12-1:00 PM) twice a month. We were joined by our friends from Radio La Ley 96.1FM and community members and representatives of organizations affiliated with the FFAO campaign. NCAP was the only organization to establish live media and we hosted six interviews with Oregon Food Bank representatives and enthusiastic supporters of Food for all Oregonians around Oregon State. 

At the event, "A Day of Advocacy" in Salem, we had the opportunity to have workshops with over 250 people. We created support cards, writing down testimonies and the needs of our residents in Morrow and Umatilla counties. With the main goal to obtain free food support for all, regardless of immigration status, since food represents a right for every human being. 

After completing our joint work on the FFAO campaign, we had the opportunity to expand our partnerships with other organizations and community members to hear their comments and testimonies. This was an important way to enhance this campaign. Together we can build a bridge of equity so that all Oregon residents can have access to free food, regardless of immigration status, language, country of origin, or the circumstances that led them to migrate to this state to seek a better life for their families. 

Direct to the Capitol

A group of NCAP volunteers and Radio La Ley were present at the informational event about what would happen at an Advocacy Day. Our group went to visit the office of Senator Gregory Smith, representing Morrow and Umatilla, District 57. We had a very pleasant and interesting conversation with him and his secretary, Calvin. They attended to our requests and the support needs we have been seeking for our people who do not have immigration status and who are farmworker families with children in school. The main objective is to seek a better future for their lives and be able to move forward as part of a healthy community by receiving free food.

Senator Gregory Smith gave us his time and kindly responded to our requests. He also emphasized the importance of supporting the community of agricultural and working-class families from Guatemala and other Latin American countries. Mr. Smith, aware of the importance of community health, was excited by the work NCAP is doing through our bilingual programs. He also spoke about the key topic of "community health prevention" and the aspects of receiving clean air, healthy water, food, and free health insurance, aimed at Morrow and Umatilla counties. These were specific points he addressed in full. 

He also expressed his interest in doing a live interview on our radio show: RAÍCES RESILIENTES/Voces del Campo 96.1FM, in order to reach out to the population and address the needs of the community. We will be working on that next interview with great interest.

El día martes 18 estuvimos en la ciudad de Salem, por la mañana en el centro de convenciones con la organización del Oregon Food Bank apoyando a la campana de Comida para todos en el estado de OR. 

La organización del OFB, ofreció un espacio a nuestra organización NCAP directamente para que presentamos en vivo el radio show: Raices resilientes/ Voces del Campo (el cual llevamos el dia martes 

from 12-1:00Pm) 2 veces al mes, estuvimos acompañados por nuestros amigos de Radio La Ley 96.1FM durante su agenda de trabajo sobre lo que sería: UN DÍA DE ABOGACÍA con miembros de la comunidad y representantes de organizaciones filiales a la campaña de FFAO, siendo NCAP la organización única que estableció un medio de comunicación en vivo y teniendo 6 entrevistas con representantes de OFB/ y personas entusiastas en apoyo a FFAO. 

En el centro de convenciones de Salem, ‘ UN DIA DE ABOGACÍA” tuvimos la oportunidad de tener mesas de trabajo con alrededor de más de 250 personas y realizar nuestras tarjetas de apoyo, escribiendo testimonios y las necesidades que hemos obtenido de nuestra gente en los condados de Morrow y Umatilla, siendo el punto principal de obtener gratis: APOYO A LA COMIDA PARA TODOS, sin importar el estatus migratorio, ya que la comida representa un derecho para todo ser humano. 

Después de realizar nuestro trabajo en común sobre la campaña FFAO, tuvimos la oportunidad de extender alianzas con otras

organizaciones y miembros de la comunidad, para escuchar sus comentarios y testimonios, lo cual vino a traer más importancia en realzar esta campaña para que juntos podamos lograr ese puente de equidad para que todas las personas que son residentes del estado de oregon y que puedan tener acceso a recibir comida gratis, sin importar el estatus migratorio, el idioma y el país de donde provienen y las circunstancias que lo hicieron emigrar a este estado para buscar una vida mejor para crecer en sus familias. 

DIRECTO AL CAPITOLIO 

GRUPO DE NCAP voluntarios Y RADIO LA LEY, presentes en la acción informativa de lo que sucedería en un DIA DE ABOGACÍA, nuestro grupo se dirigió a visitar la oficina por el distrito 57 representante de Morrow y Umatilla: Senador Gregory Smith, y tuvimos una plática muy amena e interesante con él y su secretario Calvin, los cuales estuvieron atendiendo nuestras peticiones y las necesidades de apoyo que hemos estado buscando para nuestra gente que no goza de un estatus migratorio y que son familias campesinas con hijos en escuelas, con el objetivo principal de buscar un mejor porvenir en sus vidas y puedan salir adelante como parte de una comunidad saludable recibiendo alimentos gratuitos. 

El Sr. El Senador Gregory Smith, nos dió un tiempo considerado y atendió amablemente a nuestras peticiones y también remarcó la importancia de apoyar a la comunidad de familias del sector agrícola y clase trabajadora que proviene del país de Guatemala y asi mismo de países de América Latina. El Sr. Smith consciente de la importancia en la SALUD COMUNITARIA, apoyo y se emocionó del trabajo que NCAP está logrando y que hemos venido realizando a través de nuestros programas bilingües, como hemos avanzado en pasos firmes para llevar la educación a las familias agrícolas migrantes y hablamos del tema principal sobre la palabra clave “

“PREVENCIÓN EN LA SALUD COMUNITARIA- sobre los aspectos de recibir aire limpio, agua saludable, comida y seguro médico gratis, dirigido a los condados de Morrow y Umatilla en este tema fueron puntos específicos en los cuales abordó el apoyo en su totalidad. 

Además, comentó el interés de realizar una entrevista en vivo en nuestro show de radio: RAÍCES RESILIENTES/Voces del Campo 96.1FM para así llegar a dar más alcance a la población y ver las necesidades de la comunidad y ya estaremos trabajando en esa próxima entrevista con mucho interés.
