Organized by the Migrant Education Program with the collaboration of NCAP, Celebración Hispana was a Latino/Hispanic multicultural event in Hermiston, OR.
NCAP offered resources from Community Health campaigns about Pesticides, Food For All Oregonians, Vaccines, Climate Change, and more. More than 80 people attended with backgrounds from Latin America, including countries such as Venezuela, Honduras, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Cuba, etc. NCAP printed Materials that were offered in Mesoamerican language and supported language interpretation for the Mayan Mam language.
More than 40 local organizations (Doulas Latinas International, Oregon Human Development Corporation, Oregon Child Development Coalition, Migrant Education Program, Umatilla Health Department, Umatilla Head Start, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, and more) in Umatilla and Morrow counties shared free materials, resources, and recreational activities. For the children there were multiple activities including face painting and coloring pages related to the celebration. Free clothing resources were offered by the Migrant Education Program and distributed to rural families. Attendees had the opportunity to eat traditional Latin food from local vendors, some of them free and others at low cost. At the NCAP booth people were interested in attending community health workshops and we had more than 40 people registered by the end of the event!
Overall the Celebración Hispana was a great success and NCAP is excited to have a presence at events like these where nonprofits and CBOs are able to provide support and resources to the community. If you’d like to see other work like this from NCAP, visit our BLOG or SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER.
