(Statement from Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides, written by Tommy Díaz)
We, at the Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP), stand firmly with Latino communities, farm workers, and all immigrants in the Pacific Northwest.
In the face of the new administration’s open hostility toward immigrants—including hateful rhetoric, discriminatory policies, and a disregard for human dignity—we reiterate our commitment to justice, safety, and equity for all.
Migrant farm workers are the backbone of our agricultural system, contributing tirelessly to our food systems and local economies. Yet, instead of receiving gratitude and respect, they face threats of family separation, deportation, and systemic violence. Any attack on immigrant communities undermines and threatens our region’s strength and resilience. We condemn the fear-mongering and divisive measures aimed at marginalizing and criminalizing our neighbors. In Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, we believe in standing together—not tearing communities apart. NCAP is committed to advocating for farmworker safety, environmental justice, and policies that empower rather than oppress.
Now more than ever, we must unite to protect the rights, dignity, and well-being of all people, regardless of their immigration status. We call on local leaders, businesses, and organizations to join us in opposing any efforts that harm our communities. Our future depends on solidarity, compassion, and collective action.
We encourage our supporters to learn more and take action by connecting with us at (www.pesticide.org) and with advocacy groups such as PCUN (www.pcun.org) and the Oregon For All Coalition (www.oregonforall.us). Together, we will resist policies of hate and build a future where all people can live and work without fear.
